than 15 days before the expected travel date; it should not be earlier than six months.

Who Needs a Schengen Visa to Enter Germany?
Not every visitor must present a Schengen Visa on arrival to enter Germany. There are two
main classes of visitors that are required to submit a Schengen Visa:
- Citizens who come from a country that has an agreement with Germany and other countries in the Schengen zone on visa liberalization but have been rejected or deported from Germany or any other Schengen countries previously.
- Citizens and visitors from third countries that do not have any visa liberalization agreement with the European Union.
Some countries whose citizens must obtain a Schengen Visa are Vietnam, Burkina Faso, Sierra
Leone, Ecuador, Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda,
Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Ghana, Nigeria, India, Malawi, Jamaica, and Fiji. Visitors who do not
fall into any of these above categories can freely enter Germany and the Schengen area
without presenting a Schengen Visa to the border authorities.
What Documents Are Required when Applying for a Germany Schengen Visa?
Travel documents and documents revealing personal information are requested at the consulate.
To apply for a ETIAS visa, applicants are expected to
provide these documents before Border authorities can grant access to them. These documents
reveal information about you, and if you do not pose any risk to the Schengen area, you will
be given your Schengen Visa.
Some of the ETIAS requirements for application include:
- Travel medical insurance
- A visa application form; filled and signed appropriately.
- Passport-size photographs of dimensions 35 by 45 mm on a light background, showing your facial features clearly
- Proof of a legal residence in your home country
- Proof that you will return to your home country like an employment letter
- Proof of finances to cover your bills during the journey
- A complete travel itinerary showing your entry date, exit date, flight numbers, and activities within Germany and the Schengen area
- A passport or an equivalent travel document
- Where applicable, Applicants should present a copy and the original of these documents at the consulate.
Applications should be completed in English or German, documents issued in other languages
should be translated to any of these languages for processing at the consulate.
If you have plans of driving in Germany, ensure to take your valid driver's license issued
by your home country or an international driving permit.
Travelling to Germany

Non-European citizens seeking access to Germany and other Schengen countries are expected to
have a Schengen Visa or an ETIAS visa waiver. The ETIAS visa waiver will be active by the end
of 2022. The visa gives a maximum staying period of 90 days every 180 days. The visa has a
validity period of 3 years. If you need a more extended stay period for activities like work
or study, you need to apply for other types of visas.
