Cost of Living
Romania has one of the most affordable costs of living in all of Europe. Accommodations in Bucharest
are relatively inexpensive compared to most cities in America and Europe.
A one-bedroom apartment in the center (Bucharest) costs $370 and $265 outside the city center. You'll
find a three-bedroom apartment in the city center for $635 and $476 outside the city center. With
only $127, you can get an 85-m2 basic utility apartment.
Romania has an extensive railway network. It has the fourth-largest mass transit network in Europe.
A one-way ticket costs $0.54, while a monthly pass costs $17.5.
You can choose to hire a car or use a taxi. Gasoline costs about $1.74 per liter, and a one-kilometer
taxi ride goes for $0.60. Romania is also home to the world's best driving road, the Transfagarasan
highway.
Meals are very affordable here too. A basic lunch at an inexpensive restaurant cost $7.1. And if you
prefer to cook your own meals, you can shop for groceries at any of the local markets. A loaf of
white bread costs $0.9, one kilogram of local cheese costs $6.4, and a liter of milk costs
about $1.21.
